Every Euro NCAP result we track for a model also sold in the US, with stars, the four percentage scores, and a link to the official report. Click any column header to re-sort.
See the results listOur Euro NCAP table covers 25 models sold in the US; 24 of them hold a five-star rating, and the highest adult occupant score in the list is 99% for the Mazda CX-30 (tested 2019, a rating Euro NCAP now treats as expired). Stars from different test years are not equivalent: Euro NCAP tightens its protocols regularly and treats a rating as current for about six years, so 12 of the ratings below are older than that and should be read as historical.

"Expired" marks ratings more than six years old, which Euro NCAP no longer treats as current. Results tested under different protocol years use different tests and are not directly comparable.
Euro NCAP vs IIHS
Euro NCAP and IIHS both crash cars on purpose, but they answer slightly different questions and report the answers on different scales. A five-star Euro NCAP car is not automatically an IIHS Top Safety Pick, and an IIHS award winner has not necessarily been tested in Europe at all.
Euro NCAP
- Independent European program, founded 1996, covering cars sold in Europe.
- Rates 0 to 5 stars with percentage scores in four areas.
- Scores pedestrian and cyclist protection, child seat fit, and driver assistance, not only occupant crash protection.
- Five stars require a high level in every area; the weakest area caps the result.
- Ratings are treated as current for up to six years, then expire as protocols move on.
IIHS
- US insurance-industry institute covering US-market vehicles.
- Rates each test Good, Acceptable, Marginal, or Poor; no stars.
- Focuses on crashworthiness (small overlap, moderate overlap with a rear passenger, side impact), plus front crash prevention and headlights.
- Awards Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ to vehicles that clear thresholds in every rated test.
- Tests change year to year, so older results can stop counting toward awards. See which cars were re-tested.
How to use both: for a car you can buy in the US, start with IIHS results and our safest cars ranking. Use Euro NCAP to fill gaps IIHS does not cover: models IIHS has never tested (the Mazda MX-5 Miata, for example), pedestrian protection, and child seat compatibility. Modern cars built on global platforms share their body structure worldwide, so Euro NCAP's structural results carry over well; driver-assistance calibration and airbag specifications can differ by market, so treat the safety assist score as European.
How to read a Euro NCAP rating
The star count is the headline, but the four percentages tell you where a car is strong and where it is merely adequate. Every result in the table above was scored in these four areas:
Frontal, side, and rear (whiplash) protection for the driver and adult passengers.
Protection for children in child seats in the dynamic tests, plus how well seats fit and install.
Head, pelvis, and leg impact protection for pedestrians and cyclists, and AEB that detects them.
Automatic emergency braking, lane support, speed assistance, and driver monitoring.
- The weakest area caps the stars. Five stars require a high score in every area, which is why the Mazda MX-5 stayed at four stars in 2015 with an 84% adult score: it had no AEB, so safety assist scored 64%.
- Test year matters. Protocols are updated roughly every three years, so a five-star result from 2019 was earned against easier tests than a five-star result from 2025. The Mazda CX-5 entry, for example, was tested under the 2025 protocols.
- Ratings expire. Euro NCAP considers a rating current for up to six years. Rows marked "Expired" are still real results, but the car would face different tests today.
- 2026 is a reset. From 2026 Euro NCAP scores cars under four new pillars: safe driving, crash avoidance, crash protection, and post-crash safety. Results published under the new scheme will not line up column for column with the table above, which is why we do not mix them.
- Some cars carry two ratings. Since 2016 a model can hold a standard rating and a higher one that applies only with an optional safety pack. The official result page says which equipment the rating assumes.

Euro NCAP questions
What is the Euro NCAP rating?
Euro NCAP is the independent European crash test program, running since 1996. It rates new cars from zero to five stars using percentage scores in four assessment areas. For cars tested through 2025 those areas were adult occupant, child occupant, pedestrian protection, and safety assist. From 2026 the areas are safe driving, crash avoidance, crash protection, and post-crash safety.
Is Euro NCAP the same as IIHS?
No. Euro NCAP awards stars and percentage scores across four areas, including pedestrian protection. IIHS rates each crash test Good, Acceptable, Marginal, or Poor and awards Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+. The two programs use different tests and scales, so a five-star Euro NCAP car is not automatically an IIHS award winner, and vice versa. The comparison above covers the details.
Do US cars get Euro NCAP tested?
Only if a version is sold in Europe. Many US models share their body structure with the European car, sometimes under a different name: the Ford Kuga is the Escape and the Nissan X-Trail is the Rogue. Our table lists 25 Euro NCAP-tested models that are also sold in the US. Models that are not sold in Europe, such as most full-size pickups, are never tested.
Which cars got 5 stars in 2026?
Our table does not yet include any 2026 Euro NCAP results. The newest results here are from 2025, when the Mazda CX-5, Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y earned five stars. Euro NCAP publishes results in batches through the year and switched to a new rating scheme in 2026, so check euroncap.com for the current 2026 list.
